LANE, Shirley Francis - 74, Prospect, died peacefully surrounded by her family, March 19, 2005, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Ada (Jollimore) Cornell. Shirley was a trained registered nurse and was a matron of Victoria Hall for many years, having a great compassion for all in her care. She was an avid gardener. She enjoyed the comradeship of being involved with The Children of Mary, Star of the Sea Parish and the enjoyment of her grandchildren, spending many happy hours with them. Shirley had a tremendous sense of humor and always had a way of making light of life's situations. Surviving are daughters, Deborah (Donald) Slaunwhite, Shad Bay; Melanie (Don) Benoit, White's Lake; sons, Jon (Alana) Lane, Prospect; Jayson (Angela) Lane, Halifax; sister, Joan Chisholm; grandchildren, Peter, Eric, Jeff, Sophia, and great-grandchildren, Austin and Evan. She was predeceased by husband, John; sister, Elsie; brothers, Stanley, Cyril and son, Michael in infancy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 22, from 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where the funeral service will be held Wednesday 3 p.m., with reception to follow.
