Victoria Alkhoury

July 8, 1955 - September 15, 2007

On Saturday, September 15, 2007, at the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, the Lord took unto Himself, Victoria Alkhoury. She passed away peacefully after losing her six-year battle with cancer. Memorial services were performed at Scott Funeral Home - Brampton Chapel, and Funeral Mass was held at the St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church. Interment was at the Brampton Memorial Gardens - Christ the Redeemer's lot.

During her short life of 52 years, Victoria was committed to serving God by relentlessly volunteering her time and energy to those in need of her help and comfort. Despite the turbulent days of her fight with cancer.

Victoria has always celebrated her life with the ever-present joyful smile that was only known to those who crossed her path. Beloved mother of Elie Gemael and sister of Elie Alkhoury, Mary, Therese, Bassima, Paul, Joseph and Fouad, Victoria will be dearly missed by her family, friends and acquaintances.

Since 1998, and until the last few weeks of her life, Victoria was instrumental in setting up and running the CAN-BEST Insulating Glass testing laboratory in Brampton. She was always eager to serve her client friends with a distinct great smile and dedication, and in the language of their choice: English, French, Italian and Arabic.

Victoria's wish was for her friends not to send flowers as expression of sympathy, and in lieu if so desired, to send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Credit Valley Hospital's Oncology Department.

A Tribute from your son who will always love you!

To me, you were the mother of all mothers. I miss you dearly and will never forget our memories and your valuable lessons in life. I know that it is because of your unconditional love for me that you were able to sacrifice your wellbeing in life for mine.

Since the early days of my life, my mom struggled with an unsuccessful marriage, and still has managed to provide me with the best childhood one can ask for. After having raised me, she sent me off to University in Toronto under the care of my uncles, to follow her calling to serve God. She has spent two years in Italy studying theology at the San Agostino Roscelli nunnery. It was there, that her love for Jesus grew stronger. She then returned to live with me in Ontario, where she worked with her brother Elie (also) at setting up and running CAN-BEST Insulating Glass laboratory in Brampton.

All this time my mom remained devoted to Jesus and the Church, and became extremely active at our local parish (St-Anthony of Padua Brampton). Whether it was through her involvement at the Legion of Mary, volunteering at nursing homes, or conducting spiritual advancement classes for children, my mom never missed an opportunity to share her love with anyone that crossed her path.

Although my mom's life was short lived, and was riddled with the anguish of disease and adversity, it remains an example of all-encompassing success and victory (Victoria). Ask those who knew her, and they will tell you that her spirit shined bright, and that she was one of a kind. Although my mom is now with her friends in heaven she is undoubtedly still with us, and although I mourn her passing, my mom will remain forever in my heart.

I love you ma! Your loving son, Elie Gemael

Victoria's favorite Prayer

God our Father, Your power brings us to birth, Your providence guides our lives, and by Your command we return to dust.

May those who have been dear to us in life find a place with You in heaven.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence; their lives change but do not end. We pray in hope for our family, relatives and friends, and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ Who died and lives may they rejoice in Your kingdom where all our tears are wiped away. Unite us together again as one family, to sing Your praise for ever and ever.

Vicky, we'll always miss you!
