Concepcion D. Almiranez, known to many as Tia Consi, Tita Chit, or Dona Concha, Died at age 77, Wednesday August 31, 2005 at New York Hospital of Queens. She is survived by her sister and roommate Ester, her brother, Prajedo, her sister, Crisanta, and her many nieces and nephews. Born January 26, 1928 in Mauban Quezon, Philippines, to Eriberta Dechavez and Uldarico Almiranez, Tia Consi spent her high school years at Central Quezon Academy. Following thereafter, she moved to Manila to attend University of Santo Thomas to study Pharmacy. Tita Chit was a Pharmacist at Alfonso General Hospital in Puerto Princesa in Palawan, Philippines. In 1970, she immigrated to New York City. She settled her roots in Sunnyside, Queens, while working at Bellevue Hospital in the Hematology lab for over 30 years. After her retirement she traveled all over the world. In addition, she was long time participating member of the Mauban Association and the Philippino-American Senior Association of Rockland (PASAR). Tia Consi enjoyed dancing the night away, whether at a party or at home. She was also an avid Broadway Theatre go-er, who enjoyed going to the movies, museums, cooking, reading about world history, going window shopping at Lord & Taylor, and going to the neighborhood YMCA for some aqua-aerobics. During her lifetime, Tita Chit was a mother, a friend, an aunt, and a mentor to many. But she made it a point not to be called lola because of her youthful spirit. She was also a dedicated sister to her siblings, Recaredo Sr., Ester, Pacita, Crisanta, and Prajedo. Although her passing was sudden and a heartfelt loss to many, we must remember and continue to pass on the joy, faith, and enthusiasm for living, which she not only spoke of, but truly practiced. Of the many things she accomplished and places she traveled, her willingness to give a helping hand, without wanting anything in return, is what stands out the most. She has supported many people through hardships and joys. She has been by the side of many; watching boys become men; girls become women, young people become adults and go to college, become parents, lose parents, get jobs, discover love, find careers, lose hope, and find faith. Most importantly and amazingly, Tita Chits love came without a price tag. At the worst and best of times, she gave from heart and always believed in the best in the people. In her honor, may we remember to have a good hearty laugh, the same kind that we will all remember her for.
