Memorialize a loved one

Ray White
April 18, 1942 - April 11, 2006

"Little did we know, he left more than his footprints, he left his memories, his knowledge, his laughter and most of all he left his love."

Ray White began his life April 18, 1942 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Within a few short weeks he was on a plane, going to God's Lake MB. Life in the north suited Ray. He absorbed the beauty and simplicity of Nature by osmosis and the desire to return to that lifestyle stayed with him always.

Growing up in Reston, MB was a series of adventures, hard work, commitment to family, responsibility and friendship. Dad remembers all the wonderful years of working with Ray, building houses, barns and churches, until the Student overtook the Master and the flow of information reversed. Dad's pride in his Son knew no bounds. Maxine remembers Rays musical talent and the time he played the role of horse at the Reston Carnival. Al remembers Ray working on the soapbox for the derby and the enjoyable summer afternoons at the dugout north of town. Susan remembers being in awe when Ray wired the whole house for stereo and intercom systems in the late 1950's! What pride we all had in our big brother, his talent, his skill in imparting information, his protective arm always shielding us. He was always our inspiration and standard of achievement.

Rays quest for knowledge led him to the University of Manitoba where he attained his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Masters of Education. He also had the distinctive title of Ski Instructor out of the Stonewall Ski Club!! He devoted 33 years of his life to Education in the Winnipeg School Division and took great pride in the accomplishments of all his students. He was always aware that some of the smallest steps resulted in the greatest gains.

Rays innate Music talent caused him to be involved with fledgling Rock and Roll bands and Rock and Roll Radio personalities. Who knows where that would have led without the entrance of the love of his life, his Devoted Mate Fran (Richardson).

In 1970 Ray and Fran became the formidable duo of "Cookie and Sunshine" and began their lifelong pilgrimages back and forth across the country (and further afield) bringing Anticipation, Excitement, Joy, Hope, Help, Counsel, Handiwork and Support to their Siblings, Nieces, Nephews, Grand Nieces and Grand Nephews, not to mention God Children and Devoted Friends. Of all the recreational vehicles Ray and Fran showed up in, none was more watched for that the Big Maroon Van! Every year, like clockwork, they would drop in and there would be a whirlwind of projects completed and the by product was always a deepening respect from all. Ray taught the children how to be patient and thoughtful. He taught them that life's lessons are learned from experiencing life. He inspired a quest for travel, a love for the outdoors and encouragement to live life to the fullest and cherish every day.

Ray and Fran's life was always viewed as a perpetual vacation. Sure, we knew they had jobs, but we only cared about "When are they coming?" The visits were so hugely anticipated even our friends began to ask. No matter where they stopped they always became part of the family and were revered as a couple and as special individuals! Ray challenged us all to be better people through his examples of Gentle Grace and Dignity, his Humbleness and his love for Mother Earth. He was a joy to be around. He lived life to the fullest with Fran and all his friends and relatives. We all felt so privileged to be a part of his life.

As Ray faced the final challenge of his life we all saw the embodiment of his life's teachings. With Fran as his constant companion, help mate and cheerleader they faced the danger together. Fran never faltered with her support and she walked the distance with her soul mate. Her love for this Courageous, Intelligent, Adventurous and Caring Man will be an inspiration to us all. We can only hope that the Glorious Memories of a life well lived will sustain her in the coming months and years.

Ray, we know you don't want us to mourn forever but to remember the good times. We all have beautiful memories filled with Joy, Laughter and Love. The world will be poorer for your death but so much richer because you lived. Ray, you are a tribute to life and living. We all think of you constantly and will cherish you in our hearts forever.
