My Sincere Condolences
I had occasion some years ago to talk to Mr. Ernest Borgnine While the T.V.show Airwolf was in production And we got to discussing McChales Navy, and He told me that it was a Pure Pleasure and laugh riot , working with Mr Flynn . and that he would miss him Greatly..I second the sentiments on that. He Brought a lot of Laughs to my early Life He will be Missed!!!

My heart goes out to you
I remember watching mchales navy as a very young boy w/my dad in the 1960s when it was still in prime time yet,and it was so funny capt.bingamton (joe flynn) was beyond any shadow of a doubt the heart and soul of the show,as was curley with the 3 stooges, they can never be replaced.IM so happy to have been able too purchase all 4 seasons of that great show, when ever i have a bad day all i have too do is watch a few epodises of that show and i forget all about what bothers me,its so funny that something thats been out of production for more than 40 yrs. can still make you laugh till you cry,joe was like that in every show that he ever did,all those old time walt-disney movies,ect...

My Thoughts Are With You
I remember as a child reading the paper when Cpt Binghamton passed away. i can remember exactly how i was sitting and my grief at the time. i was 10 yrs old. even then, Mchales Navy was my favorite. How grateful I am that Mchales Navy is on DVD. whenever i am feeling down or depressed i pop in a dvd, i immediately start laughing and forget about my problems. My favorite episode is when he and Ensign Parker are taking their survival maneuvers and get captured by the Japanese. HYSTERICAL!! THANK YOU

Forever in our hearts
I always got a kick out of Joe Flynn when he was a member of the "McHale's Navy" cast. But in 1973, my brother Cary and I stumbled upon a TV show called "It Pays to be Ignorant," a revival of a popular 1940s' radio show that was an energetic parody of game shows. Mr. Flynn was the panel moderator of the TV show, and he and the three panelists were hilarious. As we watched, Cary and I were rolling on the floor laughing. Mr. Flynn outdid his "McHale's Navy" performances! I was despondent when the TV show disappeared in 1974 as mysteriously as it had appeared, and deeply saddened again when, shortly thereafter, we lost the 49-year-old Mr. Flynn, a profoundly talented gentleman who had so much more entertainment to give us. There is a surfeit of nonsense on television, much of it generated by unimaginative jokers forcing their bad taste on us. An hour-long rerun of "It Pays to be Ignorant" would be so much more enjoyable to watch than a whole day's worth of the time-fillers on the hundreds of channels that transmit through the day and night. I can't tell you just how much I miss Joe Flynn. He was one of a kind, and so he is irreplaceable. I appreciate how much and how often he made us laugh. May he rest in peace.

I can still remember as a 12-year old reading the July 20, 1974 issue of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and being shocked and stunned at the tragic drowning death of actor Joe Flynn. Having recently purchased the first two season DVDs of "McHale's Navy", I am able to once again enjoy the one-of-a kind comic genius of this talented actor who died at far too young an age. Some actors are born to play a certain role, and Joe was the perfect choice to play Capt. Binghamton; his comedic rapport with both Tim Conway and Bob Hastings was terrific!! It was terrific to hear Borgnine, Conway and Hastings reminisce about Joe Flynn on the Season One DVD; it is comforting to know that his co-workers on McHale's Navy have some wonderfully fond memories of Joe, truly they were privileged to be able to work alongside Joe in "McHale's Navy"; in my opinion, their comments and memories of Flynn is fully worth the price of the DVD, alone; those of us who are Joe's fans still remember him all these many years later, and he will never be forgotten by me, and, best of all, his work is still there for us to enjoy! May Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace, Amen!

What a tragic loss! Joe Flynn was one of those rare character actors that we'll never forget. His comedic timing was outstanding. His voices many. But I will always remember Joe as Wally Binghampton, foil for LtCmd Quintin McHale. I just bought the first season of McHale's Navy on DVD and true to form, Joe had me laughing so hard I fell out of my easy chair. God Bless you Joe, we'll never forget you!
